Girl Crush of the Week

Cara Delevingne.

I've been crushing on Cara's insane sense of style, luscious eyebrows and her top-notch photo bombing skills for a while now. Plus, the cute Brit model doesn't play up to the pampered lifestyle that we'd expect from someone who counts Joan Collins as a godmother!

Here are some of my reasons as to why we should all be a little more like Ms Delevingne.

She's fashion's new IT GIRL.
Cara has fronted campaigns for MAJOR brands - Burberry, Chanel, DKNY, H&M - this kind of means that she's a big deal in the fashion industry!

She eats. Enough said.

Her eyebrows are kind of amazeballs.

She has epic photobombing skills.

She multitasks.

She makes Justin Bieber drool.

She isn't scared of birds and snakes.

And, she kissed Sienna Miller. Because she can.

Banish the Winter Weight Woes

Anyone who says that they don't play the dreaded tug-of-war game with the fridge in Winter has got to be lying. Or, you could be genetically blessed, which in that case I'm jealous, and would like to ambush you in your sleep.

Cold days mean that my butt generally freezes up at the mere thought of going for a run in the non-existent sun, and my  hours are spent stocking up on excess calories. Blame Woolworths and their sugar-laden rusks.

How do you keep your Spanx from hating you in these hard and harsh times?

The Humble Apple. This is by far my favourite fruit! A medium-sized green apple has around 220Kj, and has enough fibre to keep you satiated when that mid-morning hunger kicks in. I love to drizzle mine with apple cider vinegar, lots of cinnamon and Parmalat Fabulite yogurt!

Woolworths Butternut Soup. For those nights when it's so cold that you can't even think about cooking, turn to Woolies! Their butternut soup is one of my go-to buys when I'm in need of something hot and homey - plus, a 300 ml portion only has 660 KJ! Pair it with Albany Olde Cape Home-Style Brown Seed bread (660Kj for 2 slices!) for a hearty meal.
i-Byte Bars. On a trip to my beloved Wellness Warehouse in Kloof Street, I came across these delicious handmade i-Byte bars. It tastes very much like an oat crunchie, filled with nuts, seeds and cranberries and covered in decadent yogurt - OTT and insanely addictive.

At only 554Kj and 18g of carbs, these should definitely be on your list of snacks!

Cadbury Hi-Lites Hot Chocolate. This is practically diet impersonating decadence! I love the fact that this is a low-fat and low-sugar product, which pairs well with fat-free milk and a little hot water.

Fake-a-pizza. Take a wholewheat flax-seed wrap, top it with sundried tomato pesto, fat-free cottage cheese, green olives, mushrooms, loads of cayenne pepper and pop it in the oven for 8 minutes. Voila - you have a low-fat pizza that clocks in at around 1000KJ for the entire meal.

Honest Disney Movies

Disney movies are my quick time fix for all things wrong with the world. Your boyfriend dumps you? Disney. Your thighs decide to play 'let's applaud every time she walks'? Disney. You're craving the sandpit and Tinkies? Disney.

We don't live in a world of sunshine and roses (at least not us sober ones), but it's nice to imagine that love really can conquer all - who cares about society, and all their B.S! Hakuna Matata is so my mantra at the moment.

This got me thinking - has Disney ignited an irrational fear of living the dream? The outcome of all the films? Perfect endings with perfect men and perfect bodies.  Sexist undertones. Pseudo-perfection. Lies. Too much pressure.

I came across these hilarious animations by Christine Gritmon and Nick Nadel, who said that they wanted to expose the 'truly disturbing content' lurking beneath the 'saccharine surfaces' of the classic movies. What do you think?

New in at Mr Price

Staying swanky and warm this Winter need not blow the budget - at least not with Mr Price. I'd like to think of myself as the anti-fashion-snob. You'll often find my trailing sales, thrift shops, Chinese chains and just about any space that's brimming with trendy gear and fabulous fashion!

Check out some of the latest findings that I spotted at one of my absolute favourite retail establishment's - Mr Price!

Girl Crush of the Week

Rita Ora. I'm not even sure if I like her music, but I absolutely love her trademark grunge style. This is a girl who really doesn't give a hoot about the haters - and I love this.

Pulling off OTT makeup, mismatched socks and oodles of hairspray can't be easy, but 'lil Rita does it with a fun and fearless attitude. Oh, and she's the new face of Madonna's fashion line 'Material Girl'!

Marc Jacobs invades pop culture

Marc Jacobs has always been my favourite of the designer bunch. He never takes himself too seriously, is quirky enough to gain chic appeal (not that he needs it), and has created mass glamour from his gig at Louis Vuitton. Now, the diamond-lobed boy has launched himself head-first into soft drinks and makeup. Quite a combo, right?

I suppose it makes sense to add coke cans to your list, once you've ticked off purses, pumps and perfumes. The 30th anniversary Coca-cola Light cans let you sip your way through the 80's, 90's and today - the cans have all been designed to take you on a journey through the decades. Judging from the Blondie/A-Ha playlist on my iPod, I'm definitely an 80's kind of girl. Each can is meant to represent a woman of her time - charming, quirky and slightly fierce.

Colour me pretty. Mr Jacobs has now added makeup to his ever-growing repertoire of lust-haves! His new cosmetics line in partnership with Sephora pure popping colour, and features more than 100 products that will launch on 9 August. The extensive collection is broken down into categories such as Smart Complexion, Blacquer, Hi-Per Color, and Boy Tested, Girl Approved. Oh, and boys never fear when Marc is near - three of the products are unisex!
