If you're a Cape Town native, then you should be familiar with one of the city's hippest kid's on the Bree Street block - Orphanage Cocktail Emporium. This delightful hot spot is one of my favourite's, and for obvious reasons - potent creations, elixirs and artisan cocktails are rife, while foodies are catered for in equal pleasure.
Orphanage recently celebrated the delectable launch of Johann`s Dining Room, which gave guests the opportunity to sample their delicious new menu. Flutes of Champagne G.H.MUMM seemed to be the unofficial greeting, which certainly went down a treat with yours truly.
Marina Nestel of The Little Black Book, took every opportunity to make sure that glasses were never empty, palettes were always satisfied and that a late-night jig was definitely to be expected.
The attraction may have been the promise of a tipple, but the food was definitely the unintentional winner for me. Tantalizing canapés flowed throughout the night, with my new personal favorite Pizzetta Zucchini with Avocado, Peas & Ricotta topped with a Basil & Grape Chutney.
If you're looking for something meatier, the Charcoal Grilled Spicy Chicken Skewers seemed to be rather well received, as were the Panga Fritters with Spicy Mayonnaise, all prepared by the very first ‘Orphan Chef’, Johann Breedt.
The crowd was entertained by the internationally famous Drag Queen Mistress Priscilla Cocktail, the latest resident for the summer season, who will be preforming every evening during dinner at The Orphanage.
