Hump Day deserves some eye candy

I woke up this morning not realizing that it was Hump Day - the horror. If I had known, I would probably have worn the appropriate attire and engaged in a little booty touche time (twerk Miley, twerk is probably my favorite line right now).

Wednesdays make me happy and sad at the same time -  kind of like a night out at Tiger Tiger. You're stoked that you're paying R15 for vodka and lime, but then you have to deal with the foul smell permeating from the carpets. You have to suck it up and weigh out the pros and cons.

Kind of like a Wednesday. Which is why I thought that it was only fair to share this with you. And, yes I may be a tad obsessed with puppies and boys - especially when they look like this.
James Dean - my all-time fave

Ugh
John Cena. And a goat. Go figure.

Beyonce & Jay Z could teach you a thing or 2

I've never been a fanatical follower of couples in the public eye. Except for Barack and Michelle of course!

It grates my high-strung nerves when people confess their undying love for each other over social media - what are you trying to prove?

It's annoying. I doubt that anyone really wants to know about how your Boo completes you, and consequently saved you from a life of one night stands. Perhaps I sound a tad bitter, but it's just a little nauseating to constantly scroll through declarations of mushy sweet nothings.

This is why I love Jay Z and Beyonce. They're like a mini powerhouse - with the charm of yesteryear, and just enough swag to pull off edgy rhyming couplets.

Jay and Queen B.

They're like a special brand of whiskey without the hangover. Everything they touch seems to turn to gold - plus, they've managed to resist the temptation to morph into single name status. Respect. We could all learn a thing or two from Queen B & Jay.

1. Keep things on the low-down. Your relationship is yours - 2 people, a fun ride and a few extras.

Broadcasting the inner turmoils of your love life kills the mystery of a relationship, and makes it easier for other people to add twisted commentary. No thanks.

2. Help each other grow. Passionate people tend to roll in the same circles - you feed off each other's ambition, which only intensifies an attraction.

I love ambition in a guy. Watching someone create the life they want is effing attractive, and makes you want to pursue your own goals. No one likes the lazy guy who sits on the sofa attached to a hip flask.

3. Friends First. Falling in lust with your best friend can be absolutely amazing, because you've created a foundation that's based on a realistic opinion of each other.

Get to know a person as a person - not as a potential love interest!

They say that the best relationships fight like a married couple, talk like best friends, flirt like first loves and make up like siblings.

Or maybe that's just my obsession with Hallmark greeting cards.

4. Don't get personal. It's easy to get offended in a game based on Cupid's arrows and rumours that could cut even Kanye's ego down to size.

This is where you have to try and keep things fun and light - if your guy makes fun of the way you snort when you laugh, then just go with it. There's a huge difference between being a douche, and simply making fun of your boo's quirks!

Girl Crush of the Week

Mila Kunis. The kind of girl who girls want to hang out with, and the type of lady whom guys want to bring home.

She's fun, fearless, a little kooky and doesn't take herself seriously! Plus, her style is pretty damn effortless - she could throw on a garbage bag and still radiate the kind of genes that Brangelina would be proud of.

She can ride a duck and look cool at the same time
She cusses with class
She can fit her entire fist into her mouth without looking tacky

Unisex fashion makes its mark

I find the illusion of a woman dressed in men's clothing absolutely fascinating. The contours of a masculine aesthetic, being broken apart by a demure feminine frame is thought provoking, and beautiful all at the same time.

Designers are creating unisex collections, which makes slipping into a 'morning after' shirt far more fun! Fashion is about expression and creating different versions of yourself, and should never be based on society's expectations of gender or sex.

Oh, and my man Kanye is reportedly creating a new unisex line. No comment.

Is the Royal family really Indian?

Try as hard as you can, but you  just can't get away from the arrival of the Royal baby. Lots of people say that they don't care - we don't live in Britain.
We don't drink Earl Grey tea with our pinkies in the air. And, we don't look as if we're in a constant state of pain.
But, you can't mess with the relevance of a future king - the 'lil guy will be hogging the headlines for years.
Every aspect of his silver-spooned upbringing will be named, shamed and scrutinized. So, get used to it people.
I'm assuming that the baby will make his debut like this?

I recently came across an article that tickled my inner Indian to the core.

10 Reasons why the royal family has Indian blood. Enough said.

1) Their weddings are massive and interminable.

2) Curry has been declared the national dish of Britain.

3) Their family life is like a Bollywood soap opera, parties alternating with melodrama.

4) I bet passionate greenie Prince Charles dances around tree corners when no one is looking.

5) The main family finances come from palatial property holdings.

6) None of them have real jobs.

7) Despite living in the 21st century, they still think that living in a huge house with a massive number of servants is okay.

8) The young ones are terrible at studying, but still get into fancy private schools.

9) The men wear fancier clothes than the women.

10) There are endless disputes over tradition between old and young.

Danielle Margaux. More than just a label.

I recently had the pleasure of chatting to Danielle Vermaas - the fashion-forward mastermind behind the Danielle Margaux brand. Danielle is pure chic. Understated sophistication. A modern woman in transition.

Danielle is passionate about creating excellent tailoring and classic feminine lines, which exude the charm of yesteryear. The new Danielle Margaux range will be unveiled at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town, which takes place from 7-10 August.

Have you always been interested in fashion?

I have been interested in fashion, since I can remember. After traveling overseas, I decided to study fashion, and here I am now! Thinking back, I went through different stages like buying vintage clothing or making garments and wearing them - the interest has always been there.

How did you go about setting up the Danielle Margaux brand?

Since I started studying fashion, I have always wanted to show at  fashion week under my own label. I therefore had to put a time limit on it, and said that by the time that I turn 30,  I would have my own label. I left KLUK CGDT when I was about to turn 29, and the Danielle Margaux label was born.

What can we expect from you collection at this year’s MBFW?

The collection is inspired by artists such as Yves Kline, Jackson Pollack and Rothko. It also has a very nautical/sporty influence and this would be visible in the cut and prints used. It still remains feminine, but it has quite an edgy twist .

What advice would you give to a young designer who is starting out in the South African fashion industry?

It's not easy, but as long as you are willing to work hard, put in the hours and have the
     drive - you'll succeed!

What are you top 5 key items for staying trendy, yet practical in Winter?

A trench coat, a good pair of stockings, a pair of leather boots, an interesting scarf and a bright nail color that turns heads.

What fashion trend do you love to hate?

Guys or girls who let their boxers/g-strings stick out!

Which are you favourite clothing stores?

I tend to look at overseas designers more and I love Chanel, Donna Karan and Malene Birgir. For obvious reasons, I am inspired by KLUK CGDT, and I regard myself as very
fortunate to have worked there. I quite like second hand stores - it's interesting to see how garments were made decades ago! I especially love Stock Exchange in Kloof Street, which sells overseas second hand designer items.

What motto do you live by?

"Do everything while you still can, so that you do have any regrets when you're older."
