We all scream for..Froyo?

Shall I compare thee to a Summer's Day? William Shakespeare hit just the right spot when he whispered sweet nothings about hot Summer days.

Well, this is sort of how I feel about frozen yogurt

Frozen yogurt. Froyo. It's like a party in your mouth without the hangover. Perfection on a raging Summer's day, while you try your best to hustle your way into a 1 piece.

So, what happens during Winter when the sun starts to resemble a crafty lover intent on playing hard-to-get?
Can froyo survive the chills and heartache of the mid-season slumber?
After several sessions spent frolicking in guilt-free dairy at Myog Frozen Yogurt in Kloof Street?

Yes.
Hell, yes.

Co-owner Joris
Myog Frozen Yogurt has become a go-to spot on trendy Kloof Street, and caters to health nuts, car pool moms, runway lions and hipsters alike. I suppose that the eclectic clientele, combined with the frozen treats on offer, is what makes Myog so delightful.

The shop is stripped of the brightly coloured pieces of plastic that most froyo bars have recently adopted. Instead, you are greeted by faux green grass, washed out tables and a laid-back soundtrack that forces you into an eco-friendly daze.
French born owners Joris and Jean-Eric have been friends for 10 years, and opened Myog after visiting on holiday. Seductive Cape Town wooed the two into turning it into their home, and the rest as they say, is froyo history. The popularity of Myog might be due to the fact that they never compromise on quality (or it could be the charming owners).

Now, let’s get to the good stuff - the froyo. Being 98% fat free, Myog is most probably the best date you’ll ever have - no regrets and no over thinking. The flavours change on a weekly basis, and you can choose from mixed berries, cinnamon, coconut, coffee, peanut butter, rooibos, or play it safe with natural. My favourite bit is definitely the toppings! Fresh fruit, chocolate balls, white buttons, mixed nuts, coconut – always good to the keep your options open, as I say.

Myog has a range of treats on offer for the chilly, Winter months. I tried the ‘Yoffee’, which is simply coffee, topped with a dollop of frozen yogurt - pretty damn perfect for those with a caffeine addiction.

Myog is really just about keeping things fresh, simple and healthy. Although, Joris says that they have had a few strange flavour requests – Amarula froyo topped with biltong, anyone?

Winter specials : Double stamps from 9am til noon. Or, try the breakfast duo: 1 medium froyo & toppings OR a parfait  + a hot chocolate OR  a Yofee for R45!

Losing It

This was the piece that I wrote for Glamour SA in June this year. It basically chronicles my weight loss journey & how far I've come in terms of accepting myself physically.

It's a weird cycle of hate, self-loathing, acceptance, change & a little va-va-voom at the end! I'm big on eating right for yourself, and taking those baby steps all the way to the changing room at YDE. I've been there. And it's a nice place to be.
So, send me an e-mail if you have any questions on diet/exercise/anything-in-between - pllmay001@gmail.com. I promise to be nice :)
