Fashion fever Hits Cape Town - #MBFWCT!

We all love an exorbitant fashion fix, and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town never ceases to satisfy my hunger for glitter.

To me, fashion week is the holiday you take after your boyfriend runs away with his ego - a sort of Utopian ideal - a world filled with well decorated faces, and bodies gleaming with lust. Good friend Carrie Bradshaw once described it as the period when women leave the past behind, and look forward to the future.

Fashion week is one of the most exhausting period's of a designer or journalist's existence - your ego is either constantly inflating or under enormous strain.

As much as the fashion world is built on unleashing raw creativity and talent, its also a very frivolous one. Air kisses (please don't smudge my chinchilla darling), side hugs and bonding with bloggers, after paying far too much for a glass of Merlot?

But, its fashion week and you can sit with us - just make sure you know your tulle from your organza!

Local designer Shana Morland showed us how to keep things chic with her decadent dose of street culture. I absolutely loved her pairing of low-key peak caps, embellished sweaters and beautiful sequinned dresses. Think soft feminine silhouettes with an expressive street wear edge - a summer in Cape Town has never looked this attractive!

The king of couture himself, Gavin Rajah certainly knows how to go OTT in lashings of glitz, glamour and The illustrious designer is always a highlight of #MBFWCT, and showcased a gorgeous display of Japanese inspired prints, textures and eclectic embroidery. Gavin was bound to maximise the drama - think orchid headpieces, geisha inspired make-up and ostrich feathers. The collection was definitely made for the urban woman with a twist - I loved the his use of black lace, quilted tops and laser-cut leather!
