Stop. Breathe. Drool.

A few weeks ago, I shared the lust with a few of my favourite pictures of cute boys and kitties. Some of you may remember the shirtless men and their feline counterparts, which were a total treat if I do say so myself.

To be completely honest, I'm a complete dog lover at heart - I often profess that I'll one day be the old lady with the 9 puppies at her side (that's if James Franco doesn't realise that he's in love with me by then).

I love dogs. I love cute boys. And, I'm an absolute glutton for cute boys holding puppies.

And..My personal favourite

We all scream for..Froyo?

Shall I compare thee to a Summer's Day? William Shakespeare hit just the right spot when he whispered sweet nothings about hot Summer days.

Well, this is sort of how I feel about frozen yogurt.

Frozen yogurt. Froyo. It's like a party in your mouth without the hangover. Perfection on a raging Summer's day, while you try your best to hustle your way into a 1 piece.

So, what happens during Winter when the sun starts to resemble a crafty lover intent on playing hard-to-get?
Can froyo survive the chills and heartache of the mid-season slumber?
After several sessions spent frolicking in guilt-free dairy at Myog Frozen Yogurt in Kloof Street?

Yes.
Hell, yes.

Co-owner Joris
Myog Frozen Yogurt has become a go-to spot on trendy Kloof Street, and caters to health nuts, car pool moms, runway lions and hipsters alike. I suppose that the eclectic clientele, combined with the frozen treats on offer, is what makes Myog so delightful.

The shop is stripped of the brightly coloured pieces of plastic that most froyo bars have recently adopted. Instead, you are greeted by faux green grass, washed out tables and a laid-back soundtrack that forces you into an eco-friendly daze.
French born owners Joris and Jean-Eric have been friends for 10 years, and opened Myog after visiting on holiday. Seductive Cape Town wooed the two into turning it into their home, and the rest as they say, is froyo history. The popularity of Myog might be due to the fact that they never compromise on quality (or it could be the charming owners).

Now, let’s get to the good stuff - the froyo. Being 98% fat free, Myog is most probably the best date you’ll ever have - no regrets and no over thinking. The flavours change on a weekly basis, and you can choose from mixed berries, cinnamon, coconut, coffee, peanut butter, rooibos, or play it safe with natural. My favourite bit is definitely the toppings! Fresh fruit, chocolate balls, white buttons, mixed nuts, coconut – always good to the keep your options open, as I say.

Myog has a range of treats on offer for the chilly, Winter months. I tried the ‘Yoffee’, which is simply coffee, topped with a dollop of frozen yogurt - pretty damn perfect for those with a caffeine addiction.

Myog is really just about keeping things fresh, simple and healthy. Although, Joris says that they have had a few strange flavour requests – Amarula froyo topped with biltong, anyone?

Winter specials : Double stamps from 9am til noon. Or, try the breakfast duo: 1 medium froyo & toppings OR a parfait  + a hot chocolate OR  a Yofee for R45!

Don't let Winter harass those legs

Cold, Winter nights usually translate to unkept hair, legs that haven't seen a razor in weeks and mounds of popcorn spilling out the covers. I woke up drool faced this morning, and the sudden realisation hit me - I'm morphing into a Winter sloth.

Okay, perhaps I haven't exactly been vegetating 24/7, but the raging fear of one day waking up to a dying pot plant and Diet Coke next to my bed is a constant worry.

So, I've made the decision to enter into rehab for the socially repressed. No coercion. No pressure. Sort of like a purity ring, with the promise of a shindig every now and then - perhaps even a hoedown if I'm feeling raunchy.

I'll never turn down the opportunity to scream "The South will rise again" with a spontaneous "Yee Haw" every two minutes.

Winter, I'm coming for you.

Pop by It's a House to satiate your hunger for the free thinkers, the creatives, and to immerse yourself in it's 'bespoke lifestyle'. Free your mind.

The cool part is that you don't need to dress up, in fact dress down - the colourful collection of people which gather here will appreciate your mismatched socks. Trust me.

It's a House is currently running their 'Bad Movie Nights', with screenings of hilariously bad movies. There's popcorn, soup, hot chocolate and a great reason to catch up on 'something so bad, that it's good'.

Another Victoria's Secret Stunner

The July issue of GQ UK will most likely set a few hearts/pulses/body parts racing with the stunning Bregje Heinen on the cover. The Victoria's Secret model is seen in a series of seductive poses, which were meant to radiate a little Summer sunshine. To be absolutely honest, the Summer Days theme of this shoot merely had me craving a trip to the gym.

Seapoint Food Coma

Seapoint. An incandescent spot for the young, not-so-young and those with curves to kill. Cape Town's dynamic foodie culture has really given incongruent groups of people the chance encounter of becoming lunch time allies. I've lived in Cape Town for around 2 008 days now, and yet I only recently discovered one of it's most loved eateries

Giovanni's Deli World

The laid-back ambience of this Seapoint institution is addictive. Patrons are planted at bustling tables on the sidewalk, the aroma of robust caffé hits you in just the right spot and dark-haired stallions are munching on delicate pastries. You immediately feel as if you have absorbed a part of 'Little Italy'. My friend Sarisha dragged me off to Giovanni's on an early Sunday morning, professing that I'll absolutely "love this little place". And, she was right.

Giovanni's is primarily a deli come cafe, and is especially well-known for their 'make your own sandwich' bar. You pick your own choice of homemade bread - rye, wholewheat, ciabatta, bagels, baguettes, wraps, croissants - the options are endless. Off you go to the deli, where there is a wide selection of cold meats, fish, roasted vegetables, cheeses, dips, salads and pesto to choose from.

The BEST coffee I have ever had
Sarisha got a bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado and capers, which I found to be quite reasonable at R45. I wasn't in my usual starving mood, as I had already had my early morning Sunday brekkie of scrambled eggs. Cravings? Broccoli, steamed butternut and a pickle. Some may find this amusing, but it was one of the yummiest combo's I had ever had. The thrill of a visit to Giovanni's seems to be their potent caffeinated brew - this stuff is the real deal!
Sarisha's Salmon Bagel
Looks rather bare, but I loved it
I highly suggest that you swing by Giovanni's, whether it be to become part of the chic devotees of an infamous pseudo-Italian hangout, or if you are simply craving a 'stuff-your-face' session. This place knows good food, and they know their people. You might even find yourself a regular.

Friends Forever?

Rolling into the working world is often accompanied by more responsibilities, toils, troubles and a declining intent to party on vodka Fridays.  Life gets busy, you become a bit of a homebody and staying in with Season 1 of The Vampire Diaries begins to sound like a wild night out. In varsity, the chore of balancing fun and work is easier – you see your friends at lectures or at least make plans to meet up on the Tiger dance-floor. Suddenly, life gets complicated and friends drift apart.

You promise each other that you'll stay in contact, and meet up for lunch at least once a week, but the legitimacy of this is not always practical. I have met so many people over the last 5 years, many of whom I thought would make the cut post-varsity. I can honestly say that I can label ‘my people’ by the ones who come to mind when I'm stranded at work, or find out that a relationship wasn't as monogamous as I had thought.

The line between degenerating into an acquaintance, or evolving into BFF’s is a thin one. Many people are freaked out at the possibility of morphing into someone’s rock when the winds decide to change, and life throws you a curveball. Can you really rely on that person you met at age 18 to stick around once your problems grow beyond holding your hair back?
I regard every friendship as a relationship. You may not be wining and dining a date with the desired intent to get ‘into the zone’, but you do need to put in the same amount of effort.
Communication. Respect. Honesty. Commitment. No booty calls.

Distance can make the heart grow fonder. I have the most amazing group of friends who have been by my side through emotional outbursts, losing a parent, breakups and indecisiveness in the cereal aisle. A lot of this happened in two very different cities, but we still managed to become even better friends – I really do owe a lot to BBM, and it’s aptitude to assert an emotional connection.

A long distance friendship is as difficult as you make it. You wouldn't think twice about setting time aside to chat to your significant other, so why not do the same for that friend who would shriek ‘hold me back’  if anyone had to mess with you.

The common cliché of neglecting your BFF so that you can drool over the new guy in town is way past its sell by date in my mind. If you can't spot the cosmic difference between someone who’s only there when you scream ‘pass the tequila’, and someone who would willingly watch Disney movies with you on a Saturday night, then you sadly need to re-prioritise your life.
Never take a pal for granted, and remember that he or she always has the option of leaving when you lose that lovin’ feeling. But, if the relationship is sincere, then it will progress beyond the stable realm of lectures and exams. The messy domain of a post-varsity friendship is ugly, messy and beautiful all at the same time. It’s challenging. But, you might just wake up one day and realise that you've found yourself a keeper. I know I have.

Kate Covers Vogue

Kate Upton is one of my favourite's at the moment. She resembles a healthy, fresh faced and normal looking girl who has graced the covers of of some of the most coveted titles - okay, maybe not that normal.

Kate has brought back the appeal of the 'curve', without losing the appeal of a sexy body that still looks hot in a bikini. Living on a diet of coke and ciggies doesn't seem to be part of her daily regime judging from these pictures.

Sure, you can seduce my muscles.

Everyone loves a little R&R and a spontaneous back massage is exactly what a girl needs after a week of illusions and delusions. The kind people at Cosmopolitan sent me a voucher for Dream Nails at Cavendish Square, so this just gave me an extra reason to have some face down time.

The smell of acetone greeted me on arrival - I really was not familiar with the high strung world of mani's, pedi's and fur coats. I was quite surprised at how busy Dream Nails were - literally every table seemed to be booked!

This is me before the massage
Possibly, the only thing that I hate about any massage experience is the part where you're told to take your top off. Quite a scary line if I lived down South, or was at a club in lower main road Observatory. The agonizing aspect for me is that I hoard quite a few insecurities about my body, but, who doesn't right?

A massage therapist is kind of like a shrink for your muscles
I always assume that the massage therapist is most likely judging the uneven lines on my shoulders, or the jiggle of my arms. Women being critiqued by other women is such a common practice, and I'm ashamed that it's pushed me to associate the calming aspect of a massage with a hint of anxiety.

This is why I thought that Sunay from Dream Nails kind of rocked my world in a total 'non-lets-be-honest' way! The lights were dimmed, she asked what my name was and offered me a glass of water - this really could be the most polite date that one could have.  My 30 minute back, neck & shoulder massage was amazeballs - no other unit of language can really describe this feeling. This was honestly the best 28 minutes of my week. I spent the first 2 minutes making polite small talk - this is customary, right?

I also got a much-needed eyebrow wax, after fearing that I was starting to resemble that Mexican artist Frida with the uni-brow. The wax was pretty good too - well, anything is after I decided to go to a Pakistani lady in a back alley that one time.

I really recommend getting a treatment from Dream Nails at Cavendish Square. The interior is beautiful, the therapists are lovely and the prices aren't too bad.
